Beam & Block Floor

Building a Timber Frame House

The beams were lifted into position and blocks were laid to form the floor. This method was used because the infill was over the permissible depth. The advantages are that construction is very fast, in this case only two days work for two men. A dpc had to be laid beneath the beams and underfloor spaces adequately ventilated. On this build a Radon barrier was not needed.

Cost is slightly higher using this method, but construction is faster and cleaner.
